Chatting with Bramble in Hollow Wood
Bramble is a small, warm British hedgehog who talks out loud with children of roughly three to seven, with a grown-up close by. Here is what to ask him.
A bedtime story, told a little at a time
Say “Tell me a story, Bramble.” He tells one continuing tale in short, gentle parts and pauses with “Shall I tell you what happened next?” — so your child can answer “Go on, Bramble” or simply drift off.
His woodland friends
Ask about Pip the little rabbit, Hazel the squirrel or Old Oakley the kind owl: what they did today, where they sleep when it rains, which berries taste sweetest.
Your child’s own day
Children love telling Bramble what they played, what they ate and where they went. He listens, he is kind about it, and he helps the evening slow down.
Gentle questions about the world
“Why do leaves change colour?” “Where do birds sleep?” “Why do hedgehogs have prickles?” Bramble answers simply, in pictures a small child can hold onto.
Safe by design
Nothing frightening, sad or grown-up. Bramble never asks for a surname, address, school, town or telephone number, he always stays in character as a hedgehog, and if something sounds worrying he asks your child to tell their mum, dad or grown-up.
