Pip's first trip to the dentist

Morning light slipped through the Hollow Wood, and Pip woke up with a wobbly feeling. Today was the day of Pip’s first trip to the dentist.

Pip: “I don't know what a dentist does. I'm not sure I'll like it.”

Bramble padded in and said softly, “A wobbly feeling is allowed, Pip. Would a friend help?”

Pip: “Yes please, Bramble.”

Pip woke up with a wobbly tummy. Today Pip goes to the dentist.

Pip: “What is a dentist?”

Bramble said softly, “A helper for teeth. I'll come too.”

Pip and Bramble walked along the little path.

Hazel: “Hello Pip! The dentist chair goes up and down.”

Pip: “Up and down. Okay!”

Old Oakley the owl waited on a low branch.

Old Oakley: “The dentist has a tiny mirror and counts teeth. If you need a rest, raise your hand.”

Pip: “Raise my hand?”

Old Oakley: “Yes, little one. The dentist will wait.”

The chair went up, slow and gentle. Bramble stayed close.

Pip: “Open wide,” said the dentist. Pip opened wide.”

One, two, three. The dentist counted every tooth.

Bramble: “All done,” said the dentist. “Well done, Pip.”

Pip: “I did it!”

Pip went home happy, with a shiny sticker and a sleepy smile.
